Joe Rooney @ Róisín Dubh Comedy Clubh

Support from Colin Chadwick and Áine Gallagher

JOE ROONEY is best known as 'gurrier priest' Fr Damo from Father Ted, barfly Timmy Higgins on Killinaskully, and from his appearances on Red Rock, but he is also a first rate stand-up and improv comedian.

Rooney plays the Róisín Dubh Comedy Clubh tomorrow from 8.30pm. Chortle.co.uk praised his comedy for its “delivery plus content. He’s a smooth operator with an innate confidence”, while Hotpress called him "occasionally laconic, at times infectiously manic, and always rivetting". He also appeared in the stage version of The Shawshank Redemption at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and which also enjoyed a sold out run in Dublin.

Support is from Colin Chadwick, a contributor to BBC Radio's award-winning Newsjack. According to Arts Award Voice he is "an expert in setting up one-liners", and, says Broadway Baby, his "punchlines come thick and fast". Also on the bill is the brilliant Áine Gallagher, whose self-deprecating style comes as Gaeilge agus as Bearla.

The MC is Steve Bennett. Tickets are €8 in advance from the Roisin Dubh, roisindubh.net, and OMG@Zhivago, Shop Street, or €10 on the door.
