MR PUSSY, "the doyen of Irish drag queens...the original of the species," according to the Sunday Independent, will be in Galway tomorrow to attend GASS - The Great and Secret Show.
GASS, the only LGBT clubnight in Galway, hosts its Christmas party, entitled Sexy Christmas, in the Róisín Dubh from 11pm, where Mr Pussy (aka Alan Amsby ) will present a copy of her autobiography, Before I Forget to Remember, to the winner of GASS's recent Facebook competition.
Kiki St Clair, along with Donatella D'Burqa, will host GASS's Sexy Christmas. There will be music from DJ Simcard, who will throw in a few Christmas tunes as well, while the guys from My Bare Butler will be giving out free gifts.
Englishman Alan Amsby arrived in the grey, Catholic, and conservative Ireland of the late 1960s, for one week to perform as Mr Pussy, but became an overnight sensation, ultimately making Dublin his home.
Now in his 50th year as a performer, Alan has delighted generations of Irish audiences and helped demolish boundaries that constrained and controlled society. Before I Forget to Remember, published by New Island, is a candid, witty and poignant memoir, where he recalls his days as a drag princess and model in the Swinging London, partying with David Bowie; being heckled by one of the Kray twins, snogging Danny La Rue; shocking Ireland with its first adult panto; losing friends to the AIDS epidemic; opening Mr Pussy’s Café De Luxe with Bono; but also of battling homophobia, prejudice, and injustice.
The book also features rare images and photographs from Alan’s personal archive. It was written with journalist David Kenny, and the introduction is by Panti Bliss.
Alan Amsby will also be signing copies of Before I Forget to Remember in Easons on Saturday.
