TWO RIC men with Galway connections, and the very different parts they played during the revolutionary period, will be the subject of two public talks at the Galway City Museum this weekend.
The talks, entitled RIC Men on Opposite Sides of the Revolution, take place this Saturday. At 12 noon, Eoin O'Neill will discuss the life and death of RIC Constable Patrick Whelan, who became the only fatality of the Galway Rising when he was shot dead during crossfire between the RIC and the Irish Volunteers at Carnmore Cross.
At 2pm, Damien Donnellan will discuss the life and times of RIC Constable Jeremiah Mee from Glenamaddy and the Listowel Mutiny (1920 ), during which Mee and 13 others refused to hand over their barracks to the British military and defied orders to shoot on sight any 'suspicious looking' Irish person.
