“EVERY NOW and again I encounter a singer who gives me a glimmer of hope. Jim Page carries that light.”
So said Christy Moore about the American folk/trad singer, songwriter, and guitarist who plays The Crane Bar, Sea Road, on Wednesday at 9pm.
Jim Page was born in Palo Alto, California, and has lived in Seattle since 1983. A highly respected songwriter, Jim’s songs have been covered by Christy Moore, Michael Hedges, John Trudell, The Doobie Brothers, Joanne Rand, Casey Neill, and David Soul.
Much of his music has a strong political edge, a factor which led Philip Elwood of the San Francisco Examiner to say Page was “more reminiscent of the Woody Guthrie I heard as a boy than anyone I’ve listened to in the intervening years.”
Jim also commands wide respect from his fellow musicians. Bonnie Raitt said of him: “Jim’s been writing great topical songs for as long as I can remember, bringing his acute wit and wry humour to a host of subjects that can really use both. In the tradition of Woody and Dylan, he cuts right to the heart with music you actually enjoy listening to.”
