Galway Westend to be lit up with a creative visual lighting display

Galway’s famous Westend will be officially lighting up and kicking off Christmas this Friday November 25 at 6pm.

Classic Hits DJ Jim McCabe and one of Ireland’s leading comedians PJ Gallagher will be on hand to turn on the festive lights.

Join the Westend community on Lower Dominick Street, at Monroes Tavern for some festive refreshments and music, and watch as Christmas officially begins.

The Westend will be lit up in a creative visual display along the canal and lock gate, bringing another dimension to this old part of Galway. Under the directorship of Brendan Savage of Savage Creative, the Christmas Westend light display will be reflective of the culture and personality with which the area is now synonymous.

The Westend Christmas Tree will also be lit up at Ravens Terrace on Friday evening.

Simon Heaslip of Galway Westend Traders Association said: “We chose the canal as it is such an important feature of our area and this will be something that has never been seen before in Galway. This Christmas we are partnering with the Galway Samaritans and will be encouraging text donations on all signage and branding throughout the Westend area.”
