Tomorrow Friday Nov 18 at 6.00pm. Galway's Latin Quarter will glow beneath a magical Ceiling of Light as part of Christmas celebrations in the city.
The Latin Quarter with support from Galway City Council and St. Anthony's & Claddagh Credit Union have invested a significant amount in upgrading the Christmas lights in the area.
The Ceiling of Light will be the first of its kind in Ireland and will stretch through the medieval quarter of the city from High Street to Quay Street, encompassing Cross Street and Kirwan's Lane as well, creating a very special festive atmosphere for shoppers, diners, revealers, business owners, locals and visitors to the city.
Margaret Jenkins, Chairperson of the Latin Quarter said "the new lights are much needed and are in keeping with the old town setting of the Latin Quarter. The Ceiling of Light will create a festive atmosphere and highlight the natural beauty of the medieval streets and lanes." The lighting feature will complement the city's festive celebrations which begin with the Christmas Market in Eyre Square and stretch through the city and down to the Latin Quarter.
The lights will be officially turned on at 6.00pm from the Cross Street junction.
The event will feature Christmas Carols from members of the acclaimed Cois Claddaigh and rumor has it that Santa Claus himself may even make a guest appearance to see the new lights!
