Moycullen handballer Diarmuid Mulkerrins ((pictured with GAA Handball president, Willie Roche ) was crowned All-Ireland U17 Wall Ball champion on Saturday in Ballygar.
Mulkerrins defeated Meath’s Ben Delvin in an exciting final after winning the first 15-6, losing the second 15-11, and then devastating his opponent in the tiebreaker, winning 11-0.
The younger brother of Galway’s senior handballer, Martin Mulkerrins, Diarmuid is the Connacht champion in all three handball courts, small alley 40x20, big alley 60x30 and Wall Ball. Representing St Mary’s College, he won the All-Ireland Schools and Colleges intermediate 40x20 final earlier this year, but had to settle for silver in the both the minor 60x30 championship final and schools' 60x30 final. Last weekend, however, he finished the year on a high with an All Ireland U17 crown.
