'Grab your coconuts...' It's Monty Python's Spamalot

Galway theatre company becomes first Irish company to secure rights to the show

MONTY PYTHON'S Spamalot will be performed in the Town Hall Theatre next year after Galway theatre company Twin Productions secured the rights to the Tony Award-winning show. It will also be the first Irish company to produce this show in Ireland.

Spamalot, the stage musical comedy, with book and lyrics by Eric Idle, with music by John Du Prez and Eric Idle, based on the Python's classic 1974 film, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, will be staged in the Town Hall Theatre from March 27 to April 1, and directed by Seán and Brian Power.

The supremely silly musical retells the legend of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table and their search for the Holy Grail. Throughout their journey they experience many odd encounters such as a task from the Knights Who Say Ni, a short conversation with an arguing Three-Headed Giant, and a narrow escape from the Legendary Black Beast of Aaaaarrrrrrggghhh.

Spamalot features a shameless parade of puns, a posse of knights in tights (also shameless ), a bevy of beautiful showgirls a 'dazzling diva', hilarious dance numbers, not to mention cows, killer rabbits, and some really terrible fake French accents.

“I could not be more excited to be directing this show," said Seán Power. "The script is such a great homage to Monty Python while standing on its own as a piece of musical theatre. I look forward to helming this project with the support of a great artistic team."

Do you want to be in Spamalot?

Seán is also calling on Galwegians to take part in the show and try out for auditions, which take place in the Black Box Theatre, Dyke Road, on Tuesday November 22 and Thursday 24 at 8pm.

"We’re looking forward to seeing all of the Python fans and those who might be new to it to come along and receive more information about this show," he said, "and try out for a part as a principal or a chorus member. This is a show that requires a wide age group but you must be over 17s and experience would be great but not necessary. It will be a fun show to be involved in."

Tickets are available from the Town Hall on 091 - 569777 or www.tht.ie
