International readings at Over The Edge

Helena Mulkerns, Fiona Place, Rebecca Spicer

A FORMER PR for UN peacekeeping missions in the Third World will be among the writers reading at Over The Edge in the Galway City Library on Thursday November 17 at 6.30pm.

Helena Mulkerns has written for The New York Times, Rolling Stone, Elle, The Irish Times, Hot Press, and The Irish Echo. She worked for 10 years as a press officer and photographer in UN peacekeeping missions in Central America, Africa, and Afghanistan. Her short fiction has been shortlisted for the Hennessy New Irish Writing literary awards, America’s Pushcart Prize, and Ireland’s Francis MacManus Short Story Award. Her fiction debut, Ferenji, was published this month by Doire Press.

Also reading are Fiona Place, whose poetry has been published in Boyne Berries and Skylight 47, and Michigan born, Galway based Rebecca Spicer, who writes poetry and fiction.

There will be an open-mic after the featured readers. New readers are welcome. The MC will be Susan Millar DuMars. For more information call 087 - 6431748.
