A concert of Brahms, Bartók, and Bates

ConTempo to join forces with French clarinetist Romain Guyot

BRAHMS' ROMANTIC, tuneful, and sweetly melancholic clarinet quintet will be heard in NUI Galway's Aula Maxima when ConTempo join forces with French clarinetist Romain Guyot for the next Music For Galway Concert.

The concert, which takes place on Tuesday at 8pm, will conclude with the Clarinet Quintet in Bm Op 115, but will also feature two other, very different, works - Enda Bates’ Quartet No 1, a richly textured piece written in 2008 for string quartet and electronics; and Bartók’s powerful and intense Quartet No 2, written between 1915 and 1917.

Romain Guyot first came to attention when he won the prestigious 'Young Concert Artists International Auditions' in New York in 1996. He is the current principal clarinet of the Chamber Orchestra of Europe. More recently he has collaborated with violinists Maxim Vengerov and Liza Ferschtman.

Tickets are €20/16/6 through Opus II, High Street and Music For Galway (www.musicforgalway.ie, 091 - 705962 ).
