Baboró gives children a chance to explore the arts

This week Baboró International Arts Festival for Children is in full swing. For our final Baboró ambassador profile for this year, we hear from teacher Eimear Ní Dhufaí.

One of my favourite Baboró memories is of a trip to the Town Hall Theatre in 2006 to watch a dance show, The Story of the Blues by Y Dance with my fifth class from Scoil Iognáid. I remember it very clearly as the class and I thoroughly enjoyed watching the contemporary dance show.

Baboró is important for Galway because it is a festival designed for children in which people travel from near and far to attend. It gives the children a chance to experience many forms of theatre, dance, and art suitable for them. In Scoil Iognáid, we look forward to this festival with great anticipation and excitement as we are a creative school hugely interested in the arts.

I’m really looking forward to this year’s Baboró Festival as we are very fortunate in Scoil Iognáid as many classes are attending different shows. Rang 2 and I are attending Graffiti Classics, Voyage, and Becoming: The Adventures of Growing Up. I’m so excited about seeing Graffiti Classics as I attended their show in 2012 with rang 5 and loved their unique approach to making classical music accessible and enjoyable for all children.

Eimear Ní Dhufaí works as a primary school teacher in Scoil Iognáid and has a huge interest in promoting the arts in primary school.

Baboró International Arts Festival for Children runs through this weekend to Sunday October 23. For more details see baboro.ie or call 091 569 777.
