Irish Youth Music Awards launches album of music by young Galway bands

An album featuring songs by young musicians from Galway will be launched this weekend as part of Youth Work Ireland Galway’s Irish Youth Music Awards programme.

Team Galway were the recipients of the national award last year, and the album features a selection of songs by winning act JANAJ along with other talented young musicians and groups from the city and county who participated in the team Galway entry.

Youth Work Ireland launched its 2016/2017 IYMAs programme this week, and the album will be launched at a special gig in Roisin Dubh this weekend.

This year the competition, which is open to youth groups throughout Ireland, is marking its 10th anniversary. The youth music educational programme will host some 15 regional events across the entire island in the coming months.

The album, Irish Youth Music Awards Volume 9, will be available on CD and digitally via iTunes from tomorrow. It was recorded in Temple Lane Studios in Dublin where artists such as U2, Bressie, and Kanye West have recorded, and was mastered by Richard Dowling of Wav mastering who has worked with David Bowie, The Foo Fighters, and Choice Music winner Soak.

The album features songs by winning band JANAJ along with Talann Maguire; Conor King, Jack Sinnott, and Naoise Jordan Cavanagh; Sinéad Pokall; Twelve String; Crude; Sonny Casey; and Keenan Flannery.

As part of this week’s launch, JANAJ will perform at the Youth Work Ireland National Conference in Dublin Castle this Saturday, followed by an exclusive all ages album launch gig in Roisin Dubh on Sunday at 2pm, where they will be joined by all the team Galway performers from the IYMAs album. The album will be available to purchase at this event.

“To mark the 10-year anniversary, we would love to see the album charting this year and we are encouraging people to get a copy the week of release to support this happening,” said Barry Lennon, Irish Youth Music Awards director. “We have lots more planned as part of the programme which we will be announcing over the forthcoming months.”
