A new Peugeot 5008 will be unveiled at the Paris Motor Show late this month. A departure from its former traditional MPV body shape, the new 5008 breaks new ground as a large seven-seater SUV to meet consumer demand in an emerging segment.
The new 5008 SUV will launch in Europe next spring, hot on the heels of the new Peugeot 2008 SUV, a model the French carmaker says is a huge commercial success since its launch this summer. These follow the much anticipated new 3008 SUV, which is due at the end of this year.
The new Peugeot 5008 SUV aims to build on the commercial success of the existing Peugeot 5008 MPV, the best-selling compact seven-seater MPV in Ireland in 2016.
Three clear objectives have been set: to pursue the brand’s move up-market strategy, to be an international success and to become the benchmark in the large seven-seater SUV C-segment that is still developing, with real demand and a lot of potential.
The new Peugeot 5008 appears to have all the hallmarks of an SUV. And despite its larger size, Peugeot claims it offers astonishing levels of agility. Weighing 95kg less than the original 5008, the vehicle’s aerodynamic design and optimised external dimensions give it one of the lowest drag areas in the segment at 0.76m2. Ultra-low resistance 17”, 18”, or Michelin slimline 19” (205 55 R19 ) tyres further accentuate the overall performance.
