TWO DAYS before he releases his new album, I Own You, acclaimed Cork singer-songwriter Mick Flannery returns to Galway for a show where fans can expect to hear songs from that new release.
Mick plays the Róisín Dubh on Wednesday October 12 at 9pm. On Friday 14 he releases I Own You, his fifth album, on Universal Music Ireland. The title track is out now as a single.
When I interviewed Mick ahead of his Galway International Arts Festival he spoke about what audiences can expect: "It's a little different, there are more upbeat songs on it. One even has a drumbeat on every bar of the song, which is a step forward for me!" he says. "If you like 'The Small Fire' and 'Get What You Give', the new ones are in a similar vein. Some of them are a bit threatening as they're dealing with social issues as opposed to my 'f**king irrelevant feelings'. I'm nervous of them because people could say, 'What gives you licence to comment on that?' That's scary, but f**k it! It is what it is. It's only a song. I'm not running for office."
