Gerry Halloran signs off from Motorpark with hopes of a Mayo victory

An era will end this week at Higgins Motorpark when General Manager Gerry Halloran retires after many years at the helm — and the Mayoman is hoping that it coincides with the ending of Mayo’s All-Ireland drought.

The company has said that it wishes him the best as he retires from Motorpark after over 16 years as General Manager at Higgins Motorpark, and this week, Mr Halloran spoke of his sadness at leaving after many exciting years.

“Motorpark has been a great place to work and I have formed many relationships with both colleagues and customers throughout the years. As a Mayo man living in my adopted home of Galway the opportunity offered to me to work with Michael Barry at the beginning was a fantastic opportunity,” he said.

“We had many great and exciting years but we had many low years as well where I witnessed the decimation of the motor industry through 2009 and 2013. But the company survived and we kept the head down and got through it. The motor industry is a passion of mine and will always be,” he added.

His consistent hardworking and positive approach ensured the Motorpark team constantly strove for success no matter what the circumstances. Proof of Gerry’s strength as a General Manager is that Motorpark has continued to grow, succeed and even win awards during these times such as twice winning awards for outstanding sales performance from Ford of Europe Chairman’s Awards.

Gerry, a Mayo football player in the year they win the minor title in 1978, was also a regular on Today FM’s Matt Cooper Show as a valued motoring commentator. Gerry is rumoured to be taking a trip cycling around France and intends to get to Glastonbury music festival in 2017.

Colin Barry, Managing Director Motorpark. said yesterday that on behalf of everyone at Motorpark he would like to give his sincerest best wishes to Gerry.

“He has been a loyal member and a valued friend of the Motorpark team for many years. We hope that he enjoys many more years of health and happiness and we hope that his beloved Mayo beat the Dubs on Saturday coming!”
