Walsh wins Craughwell 5k

Fergal Walsh of Athenry AC was the winner of the Craughwell AC 5km in aid of the club's new facility development.

Walsh produced a good time of 16.36, ahead of Jack Miskella in second and Ben Ryan third, both of Craughwell AC. The first woman home was Athenry AC’s Deirdre Brophy in 19.32.

Fixtures

Castlegar AC hosts a series of open cross country races in Renmore on Saturday from 12 noon. This is a revival of the famous Castlegar races held in the 1980s and 90s which attracted huge fields.

Children's raes will be held over 800m first, followed by a short course race over 3km, a ladies' race over 4km (juniors 3km ), and finally the senior men’s event over 6km (juniors 5km ).

Loughrea Athletic Club’s famous 10k Grey Lake Road Race takes place Sunday, also with a programme of junior events. The Manning Mile for secondary school students starts at 1pm, followed by a junior fun run at 1.30pm.

The senior road race starts at 2.30pm and takes in a full lap around the Grey Lake in Loughrea.

Entry fee online is €20, €5 of each entry fee is going to Irish Guide Dogs. (€25 entry on day of race ). The race is AAI approved and chip timed and there will be Technical t-shirts for first 150 entrants.
