WE BANJO 3 return to the Róisín Dubh to officially launch - on this side of the Atlantic - their latest album, String Theory, which has already been No 1 on Billboard's World Music charts.
The album was released on July 30 and has met with critical acclaim stateside, with US roots magazine Elmore, saying: "It’s as if the Punch Brothers, Sam Bush, Jerry Douglas, and the Chieftains all got together for a battle of the bands but decided to pool their resources instead. The future of World Music has arrived.”
String Theory marks something of a departure for the quartet, as indicated by its dramatic, humourous, cover showing the band - David Howley, Martin Howley, Enda Scahill, and Fergal Scahill, in steam-punk attire working like a series of mad scientists on a heady broth spewing from a distillation apparatus.
"It represents our approach to music," Enda says, "the distilling and mixing of Irish and American forms, but it's also very different from what we've recorded before. There will be more original music, very much a mix of Irish and American. We've never worked as hard on an album before, and we've never been as proud of one, that's for definite."
