"RICHIE SAVED the band as far as I’m concerned. He’s the greatest thing to happen to the Ramones. He put the spirit back in the band." So said Joey Ramone about Richie, who was drummer with the legendary punk band from 1983 to 1987.
Richie, and his band, will play Monroe’s Live on Thursday December 15 at 9pm as part of his current tour, promoting his latest solo album, Cellophane.
Born Richard Reinhardt in New Jersey, he joined the seminal New York band for the albums Too Tough to Die, Animal Boy, and Halfway to Sanity, as well as appearing on the compilations, Greatest Hits, Loud, Fast Ramones: Their Toughest Hits and Weird Tales of the Ramones, as well as on the DVD It's Alive 1974-1996. He played more than 500 shows with the band and wrote a number of songs for the band, the best known of which is 'Somebody Put Something in My Drink', which has been covered by numerous other artists.
In 2013, Richie released his first solo album, Entitled, which featured new songs written by Richie as well as new recordings of songs he wrote for the Ramones. Billboard said of it: "Richie's 12 freshest cuts aim to please fans of both rock and metal with its blend of power chord-chugging simplicity and guitar hero virtuosity." Cellophane was released last month on DC Jam Records, and features a cover of Depeche Mode’s 'Enjoy The Silence', as well as new compositions.
