Cabaret show on love and divorce

KATIE AND Conor are 20 and in the first flush of new love. Frank and Maggie are middle aged and in the throes of divorce. Two different worlds, but both in the same restaurant.

This is The Same Old Story, a cabaret and theatre show, to be staged by Cabaret Neuvo in Monroe’s Backstage Bar this Sunday at 7.30pm.

Poignant, funny, and charming, the show traces the lifecycle of a love relationship. Its director, Gerry Conneely, describes it as a play about "intimacy and love, garnered from decades of painstaking and sometimes painful research". It also draws inspiration from the European jazz café tradition. “The object is to take that jazzy form with its darkly comic themes, satire and sexual vitality and to render it within an Irish idiom," Gerry adds.

The show features musical direction by Rocio Romero Grau and features classic American songs 'Stormy Weather', 'As Time Goes By', and 'I've Got You Under My Skin'. The cast is Luke Morgan, Ophelia Mortimor, Gerry Conneely, and Colette Devanny.

Tickets are €10/8. See www.monroes.ie
