James Connolly show for Culture Night

Mary Coughlan and Margaretta D'Arcy to celebrate the life of Republican, socialist, and patriot

IRELAND'S GREATEST jazz singer Mary Coughlan, and veteran activist and writer Margaretta D'Arcy, will celebrate the life of Republican socialist, and patriot James Connolly in a major event for Galway Culture Night 2016.

Coughlan and D'Arcy will read excerpts from the epic play, The Non-Stop Connolly Show, by Margaretta D'Arcy and John Arden, in Katie's Claddagh Cottage, Upper Fairhill Road, from 5pm to 7pm, on Friday September 16. The play highlights the relationship between Connolly and his wife Lillie.

The event will also feature a "boisterous musical funeral march" to Nimmo's Pier to "throw out the corrupt Republic of Ireland and welcome in Connolly's Irish Socialist Republic", starting at 7pm. The event will also feature Rita Ann Higgins reading her controversial poem about Galway, 'Our Killer City'.

Admission is free to both events and all are welcome.
