Sky high in the Quays

Quay’s Bar of Quay Street Galway received the Sky bar award for Best City bar in Ireland. The award was accepted by Eddie Fitzgerald of the Fitzgerald Group and Seamus McGettigan, manager of Quay’s Bar - one of Galway’s historical pubs that has won various awards over the years.

The Quays was bought by Louis Fitzgerald in 1991, who renovated the premises, retaining the old bar and opening a new music hall upstairs which has been running ever since. It is the stage for Glor Tire which is filmed by Irish station TG4.

Popular with tourists, the music hall stages live bands every weekend, while traditional live Irish music sessions can be enjoyed throughout the week in the main bar. Traditional fare is served daily from the Quays restaurant with dishes such as seafood chowder and roast of the day, while visitors love to soak up the atmosphere in the old bar.
