Mayor Padraig Conneely has moved to quash speculation that there would be no Mayoral Ball this year, by saying it is his intention to go ahead with the annual charity event.
Given the current economic climate and the fact that numerous balls have been cancelled or have experienced smaller attendances, speculation was growing that the Mayoral Ball might also be cancelled.
However Mayor Conneely said he intends to hold the ball and that offers have come in from hotels in the city to host the event.
“People have been asking me about it given the economic climate,” Mayor Conneely told the Galway Advertiser.
