Hector O hEochagáin will be the special guest at a Cheltenham charity preview night in the Salthill Hotel on Sunday March 1 at 8pm.
Hosted by leading betting chain John Mulholland bookmakers in conjunction with NUIG’s racing club, this annual event previews the leading horses for the world famous Cheltenham racing festival, which this year starts on Tuesday March 10.
Commencing with recently recorded footage of the main contenders for Cheltenham glory, the evening also includes a panel discussion with contributions from the UK and Ireland’s top racing experts.
The discussion will be chaired by racing heavyweight Alan Byrne, chief executive of the Racing Post, the bible of the horse racing industry. Specially flown in from the UK for the event are world hurdle winning jockey and Ardrahan native Paddy Brennan, champion hurdle winning trainer Philip Hobbs, and top Racing Post tipster Matt Williams. Giving the Irish perspective will be Sunday Times racing journalist Donn MacLean.
Speaking in advance of the preview evening, Alan Mulholland of John Mulholland bookmaker predicted a sell-out attendance at the event.
“We are delighted to be running this charity event in conjunction with NUIG racing club,” he said. “All proceeds go to Direct Aid for Africa, a charity founded by one of our guest panellists, Barney Curley, legendary trainer and punter.
“This year we have lined up a panel of the best and greatest in the industry, from our own Paddy Brennan to top trainer Philip Hobbs. An entertaining night is guaranteed as Hector lends his own brand of humour to the occasion. We are confident that anyone attending will get the most comprehensive insight and the best tips for the four day festival.”
Tickets for the event are available in any John Mulholland outlet or can be booked on LoCall 1850 722 722. Entry fee of €20 includes a €10 free bet on the Smurfit Champion Hurdle.
