Watersports Day at Glassilaun Beach

Watersports Day in Connemara celebrates its 21st birthday with a day filled with water-based activities, and in-water games.

Over the years, the event has also raised more than €60,000 for Children At Risk Ireland to safeguard children from domestic abuse, and raise awareness about the subject.

In 2015 the team launched a helpline card for schoolchildren with contact details readily available for children who wished to avail of helpline services. It was first distributed in schools throughout Connemara, Moycullen, Westport, and surrounding areas, and this year, the team hopes to bring the card and its message even further afield.

The WaterSports Day is held annually on Glassilaun Beach, Renvyle, and this year’s event will take place on Sunday August 21 at 1pm.

Water enthusiasts can expect scuba diving, boat rides, kayaking, pony rides, children’s races, bouncy castle and slide, and much more.

There will be the traditional sandcastle competition, and a host of great prizes to be won throughout the day.

There is no charge to participate in the sandcastle competition, or the beach races. However, water activities will cost €3 per child, and €4 per adult. Kayakers and scuba divers must be at least eight years of age.

Off the water here will be pony rides for children, boat rides for families, and barbecues for all to enjoy.
