Two local sporting champions will launch this year's Gort show.
Champion boxer Sophie Cahill will be joined by Galway senior captain Gary O'Donnell, as the pair officially open the annual show this weekend.
Cahill is a two-time All-Ireland boxing champion who spars out of Tobar Pheadair Boxing Club, and Connacht championship winner O'Donnell began his sporting career with St Colman’s, Gort, before moving to the Tuam Stars.
This year's show will be the most exciting yet, with more than 240 classes, including home and garden produce, flowers, handcrafts, photography, poultry, horses, ponies, and pets.
The south Galway floods will be brought to life once more by photographer Sean Brady, who highlighted the extent of the winter flooding through some amazing imagery. His aerial photography will be on display, along with the drone collection used to capture the footage.
This exhibition will provide the backdrop to the All-Ireland photography competition which has been inundated with photographs in the last fortnight.
Catwalk Model Agency's Mandy Maher, a recent judge of the best dressed competitions at the Galway Races, will be judging the most appropriately dressed lady and gent for prizes sponsored by Pat Smyth, ladies and gents outfitters, Gort.
And as usual, the day will be packed with activities for all ages.
There will be face-painting and children’s entertainment, live music, and micro pig Amelia from the Burren Nature Sanctuary, Kinvara, will be catwalking the showgrounds.
There will also be an archery exhibition, local businesses will be selling their wares from home-baking to jewellery, and handcrafts of all types, while Gort Community School students will be displaying their finest woodwork projects.
