100-job boost as tech giant says it is delighetd to join Galway’s thriving tech hub

An Australian computer technology firm has announced 100 jobs for Galway, with more expected to be confirmed should the company hit the ground running as expected.

SiteMinder is an online cloud server, which hosts thousands of hotel websites, offering them a simplistic platform through which they can connect with customers worldwide.

The cloud server provides a direct link to leading hotels, independent B&Bs, and travel agents, at the click of a mouse, allowing globetrotters to find the deal which best suits their travel needs.

One of the company’s main business ventures is The Channel Manager which acts as an umbrella company for booking.com, Expedia, and the Booking Button.

The Connaught Hotel and the g Hotel are Galway-based hoteliers that avail of SiteMinder’s online booking service, along with Ireland’s premier locations such as the Fitzpatrick Castle Hotel and K Club.

“I’m delighted to welcome such a dynamic company as SiteMinder to Galway,” said Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation Mary Mitchell O’Connor.

“Such high-growth companies are an exact fit for our talented and ambitious graduates who wish to embark on an exciting career path.

“Galway is fast becoming a tech hub, and SiteMinder is an exciting addition with the creation of at least 100 jobs, which will benefit the entire region and have a positive knock-on effect.”

With international offices already established in Sydney, Bangkok, London, and Texas, the firm has become an industry innovator, and Galway’s growing tech sector proved an attractive location.

“We are delighted to join the thriving technology hub of Galway, which we have identified to be greatly aligned with our company’s culture and mission of providing terrific career opportunities for local talent who are passionate about technology, and can benefit from an attractive lifestyle and work-life balance,” said SiteMinder managing director Dai Williams.

“It will also allow us to further fuel the success of our multilingual sales and customer support teams servicing hotels located in Europe and all corners of the globe.”

To date, the company supports almost 20,000 customers in 160 countries across six continents, through different websites, and is expected to increase this consumer base sevenfold in the coming years.

The tourism industry in Ireland employs approximately 224,000 jobs, and constitutes 11 per cent of the country’s total employment.

IDA Ireland CEO Martin Shanahan says, “I am delighted to see SiteMinder open an office in Galway, creating at least 100 jobs.

“This company, a leading cloud platform for hotels including a number of Irish hotels, adds to the growing number of technology companies that have located in Galway, further enhancing the region as a great location for this sector.

“A key focus for IDA is bringing investment to regional locations and this announcement is testament to the success of that strategy.”

SiteMinder is now actively recruiting graduate sales representatives to join their development programme, as well as experienced customer training and support analysts.
