The healthcare support and nursing studies QQI Level 5 major award is designed to prepare people to work competently, safely, and effectively as a healthcare assistant in a variety of settings such as nursing homes, hospitals, and as home help carers. The course is structured to provide graduates with a high standard of training and assessment, leading to a recognised qualification for those pursuing a career in the healthcare sector. It is also a preparatory course designed for students who intend to pursue further training in healthcare such as nursing. Past students have been successful in applying to third level colleges and gained access to nursing and psychiatric nursing degree courses.
The emergency medical technician course is designed to prepare students to work in the emergency services, trained to respond quickly to emergency situations regarding medical illnesses, traumatic injuries, and medication administration. It also runs a number of supplementary courses in this area to include CPR, manual handling, fire skills training, and stress awareness relating to the industry. A number of its past EMT students are employed by the HSE and the private ambulance services.
