NUI Galway will host a conference, organised by the Civil Engineering Research Association of Ireland, which will acknowledge emerging technologies in the field of civil engineering, and facilitate discussion with early-career researchers about the future of industry.
The conference last visited the university in 2008, and has since been held in University College Cork, Trinity College Dublin, and Queen’s University Belfast.
Civil engineering involves the design, construction, and maintenance of the physical landscape such as roads, bridges, canals, and other architecturally important structures.
The conference will also recognise outstanding individuals in civil engineering.
The two-day event will include discussion on almost 120 full peer-reviewed technical papers and five keynote papers, providing an emphasis on application, as well as theory to maintain relevance to both industry and academia.
Renowned field experts will also be in attendance, such as Professor Enzo Siviero, Implementation Projects Studio Associato, Italy, Professor Corey Griffin, Portland State University, USA, Professor W John McCarter, Heriot-Watt University, Scotland, and Professor David Frost, Georgia Institute of Technology, USA.
Dr Annette Harte, a senior lecturer with NUI Galway, will round off proceedings, before outstanding individual contributions will be acknowledged at a presentation ceremony and conference banquet on August 30.
