Ireland’s largest privately owned Builders Merchant group, the HPC Group, has recently acquired two Builder Merchants & DIY stores in Oranmore and Gort securing 42 jobs with further growth expected in the coming months.
The two branches, previously branded as JP Corry, but better known as Coens Stores, will now trade as TJ O’Mahony’s, owned by the HPC Group, bringing the total number of stores to 12 nationwide
Bringing together over 150 years of experience in both TJ O’Mahonys and Coens, the acquisition ensures that customers will continue to enjoy excellent customer service whilst also availing of new product ranges and the latest industry innovations in Building and DIY at affordable prices.
The two stores were established by the Coen family – Gort in 1888 and Oranmore in 1989 - and were re-branded as JP Corry in 2006 following a buy-out. Both branches are now trading as TJ O’Mahony, a well-known Builders Merchant which currently operates three locations in Dublin as part of the HPC Group. The O’ Mahony brand is synonymous with the supply of quality imported timber and building materials to the building trade and home improvement sector for almost sixty years.
Speaking about the recent acquisition, Oranmore store manager Shane Minogue said “We are absolutely delighted with the announcement. TJ O’Mahony has a rich tradition of putting the customer first, in terms of quality service- at affordable prices.
“Thanks to the buying power of TJ O’Mahony and exclusive partnerships with key suppliers, we can now provide our customers with wider choice, value and expertise”.
Galway’s economic growth and recognition as the fastest growing city in Europe were key factors for the HPC Group when considering an acquisition to extend the group’s nationwide coverage.
Dennis O’Connor, Commercial Director of HPC Group and Chairman of the Allied Merchants Buying Association, further explained, “We are delighted to extend the famous TJ O’Mahony quality and service to our new customers in the West, and offer further support to builders from these areas when working on projects on the east coast.
“New jobs will be created in Heating and Plumbing, Paint Centres and our showrooms in the coming months as part of our renovation plans for the two stores”.
