A night of American music in St Nicholas'

Michigan's Dexter Community Band to play Galway as part of debut Irish tour

THE DEXTER Community Band from Michigan will give a concert of American music at St Nicholas' Collegiate Church, on Friday August 5 at 6pm.

The 60-strong member band will perform a Gershwin Medley, the ‘Stars and Stripes Forever’, and ‘When the Saints Go Marching In’, among other pieces. Formed in 1982, the band consists of 80 musicians from throughout southeast Michigan and is recognized as one of the premier amateur adult ensembles in the state. The Dexter Community Band travels extensively both nationally and internationally.

"We are greatly looking forward to our visit to Galway," said William Gourley, the band’s conductor. "Band members are excited to share their music with the local community, and the many visitors who are experiencing this wonderful town for the first time, as are we. We hope they will come along and enjoy our music at St Nicholas'."

Admission is free.
