Once again antique dealers from all over the island of Ireland will be at the Galway Bay Hotel in Salthill for the annual Galway Antiques and Collectibles Fair this Sunday.
Top dealers will be at the fair selling such diverse items as vintage and diamond jewellery, mahogany and pine furniture, old linens, porcelain, silver, old notes and coins, medals, and other objects d’art to name just a few.
Regular visitors to the Galway fair are always impressed by both the sheer beauty and quality of the items on display and by the wealth of knowledge the traders are happy to share with anyone interested in their goods.
This will be the largest gathering of antique, art gallery, and vintage shop proprietors seen in Connacht this year. It is a unique opportunity to view, examine, and purchase from a wide variety of antique items from expert dealers. All items on show will be priced for sale on the day. Bring the children along, they are always amazed and delighted to see how things worked and looked in the “good old days”. The fair offers a window into a more elegant time where beauty and practicality were not mutually exclusive.
Whether you are a serious collector or simply shopping for unusual decorative touches or one-off gifts you will be sure to find something of interest. The organisers, themselves lifelong collectors, are always thrilled to hear stories of how a chance purchase of a certain item (be it a vase, a stamp, or even a button ) have given people an interest that often spans decades. It is possible to find a 100-year-old toasting fork sharing table space with a Beano annual from the 1970s, or a two carat sapphire ring surrounded by diamonds.
It’s a very enjoyable way for all the family to spend a morning or afternoon together in this beautiful venue overlooking the Promenade. Doors open from 11am to 6pm. Admission is €3.50, accompanied children are free.
