Druid to stage world premiere of Helen and I

New play by Meadhbh McHugh to be staged in September

RED ROCK star Cathy Belton is among the cast appearing in Druid Theatre Company's world premiere of Meadhbh McHugh's play Helen and I, in September.

Helen and I runs at The Mick Lally Theatre, Druid Lane, from September 13 to 18, with previews from September 9 to 12, at 8pm. Written by Tuam's Meadhbh McHugh, it will be directed by Annabelle Comyn. The cast also includes Rebecca O’Mara, Seána O’Hanlon, and Paul Hickey.

Lynn and her sister Helen, return home to look after their dying father. Lynn’s husband Tony, and Helen’s teenage daughter Evvy, show up uninvited, and in the hothouse conditions of a summer’s weekend, a future emerges from hard-won and hard-fought engagements with the past.

“On a familiar scenario, Meadhbh brings a sharply intelligent, fresh perspective, capturing the rivalries and frailties among a generation who have only themselves to blame," said Annabelle Comyn.

"The production was previously read as part of Druid Debuts" said Druid artistic director Garry Hynes. "It is a joy to present this fully fledged production.”

Tickets are €22/20 through 091 - 568660 and www.druidtheatre.ie
