DAITHÍ, MMOTHS, and Toby Kaar, three of the most creative and exciting talents in Irish electronica, will gather in the Róisín Dubh, for what could be one of the highlights of the Galway International Arts Festival.
Daithí's pure pop and math-rock sensibilities, his background steeped in Irish trad - hence his use of a fiddle along with the electronics - and his passion for native Irish culture, have combined to make a singular talent, that has won over audiences at Body & Soul, Longitude, Indiependance, and Electric Picnic. His most recent EP, Tribes, drew on Daithí's experiences of the west of Ireland, and his next EP may explore Ireland's connections to Iceland and Canada.
Mmoths is Kildare's Jack Colleran. His music fuses sparse synths and digital soundscapes, yet still manages to retain an organic feel. Indeed his songwriting is rooted in an organic approach. "I never have a set plan," he says. "Music just happens. I'll find a cool sound and write around that. I'm not a singer-songwriter who writes about a certain event, person, or experience. I just try to write music that makes people feel something. If they feel a bit uplifted, I've done my job."
Corks's Toby Kaar is renowned for his exhilarating live performances. The gig takes place this Saturday at 8pm. For tickets see www.roisindubh.net and www.giaf.ie
