GALWAY HAS been picking up some monkey shaped blips on its music radar recently, blips that are growing ever stronger, especially as the mighty and outrageous King Kong Company play the Róisín Dubh tomorrow night.
Barely a month after the seven piece band, who play high octane dubby-electro-rock that "makes you want to start moving and never stop" (The Thin Air ) released their eponymous debut album, it has since gone into the Top 10 of the Irish Indie Album Charts and become an Album of Week on 2FM. CeolCaint.com called it, "one of the best albums released in this country this year".
The band are looking forward to tonight's show, with band member Mark Graham saying: "We already have a loyal following in Galway, having had some storming gigs in the Róisín Dubh over the last couple of years. Playing in Galway always feels a little bit like coming home, I was lucky enough to live in the city for a few years."
They are celebrated for their bombastic (in the best possible way ) live shows that are a "thumping playlist capable of blowing bulbs, twisting torsos and destroying dance-floors". Little wonder Musician.ie said: "Prepare to be thoroughly rocked". They have played Vantastival, Phase One Festival, Barndance, Body & Soul, and The Salty Dog stage at the festival.
