KRISTIN HERSH, the singer-songwriter, author, leader of Throwing Muses and 50FOOTWAVE, and an icon of American indie and alternative rock, will play Galway later this year.
An Evening with Kristin Hersh takes place in the Róisín Dubh on Friday November 4 and will see the Atlanta born singer play music from across her career, as well as give readings.
The show is part of her forthcoming Irish and British tour in support of her new double CD and book, Wyatt At The Coyote Palace, which will be published by Omnibus Press in the autumn. The book will feature song stories, essays, and lyrics by Kristin, accompanied by photographs and artwork from Dave Narcizo and Kristin Hersh.
Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Hersh released a number of outstanding albums with Throwing Muses, such as 1991's The Real Ramona. She regularly revives the band, with their most recent album being 2013's Purgatory/Paradise. She has maintained a solo career since 1994, which began with the superb Hips and Makers album from that year.
In 2004 she launched a new band, 50FOOTWAVE, with Throwing Muses bassist Bernard Georges. They have just released the very fine EP Bath White, a review of which can be read here: http://www.advertiser.ie/galway/article/85681/album-reviews-50footwave-and-wesley-fuller
Kristin Hersh has also written two memoirs - Paradoxical Undressing, based on her teenage diary, and Don’t Suck, Don’t Die.
