Walk a Western Way marathon

Don your walking boots and take part in a walking marathon or half marathon in scenic Connemara next month.

The Galway Walking Club is hosting the event on August 6 taking place in some of the most scenic places in Connemara. The route is from Killary to Ma'am Valley, mostly along the Western Way. It is mainly a flat walk, the highest point being Maumean at 259 metres. About one third of the walk is on the road, but the route is chiefly on green road or forest track.

With spectacular views of Killary Fjord, the Maumturks and the Twelve Bens, the walk is a great way to experience this part of the country.

All participants receive a well-earned meal in the Maam Valley community centre on completion of their walk. Transportation is available at any point on the walk should participants wish to return to the community centre.

The registraton form is available on the club website. Registration for the event closes on Monday August 1. This year’s registration fee for the marathon is €25.
