The soldier who fell to earth - new Galway sci-fi film

Watch trailer for new Galway made film to be screened at Galway Film Fleadh

RETURNING FROM a future war, a veteran lands back home on earth, to find something more like the Twilight Zone or The Outer Limits that anything he ever knew, and this new reality is about to test him to his very soul…

This is The Last Man, the new short film, starring Joe Byrne, of TV3's Red Rock, and directed by Galway based film maker Nigel O’Brien. It will be screened as part of the Galway Film Fleadh's Way Out West strand, in the Radisson Blu Hotel, on Wednesday [July 6] at 2pm.

The film was written by Nigel O'Brien and Martin Cassidy and was shot in Connemara. The director of photography was Barry Fahy and the producer was Emma Owen.

Speaking about the film, Nigel told the Galway Advertiser: "When I first moved to Galway, from Dublin, almost 20 years ago, I took a drive out by Maam Cross and back in along the coast road and knew I wanted to make a film out there; it’s just an outer worldly place. You could set your story at any time in human history or anywhere in the world and this place could be your location. It’s just an amazing place to film.

"The Last Man was ready to screen six months ago but we held back so we could start our journey here, at home. It’s such an honour to have this film get its world premiere as part of Way Out West at the Galway Film Fleadh before it heads out around the world on its festival run."

Tickets are available from the Town Hall on 091 - 569777 or www.tht.ie
