NUI Galway play the Garda College in the Ashbourne Shield semi-final Saturday in Cork after being defeated by UCD in the cup quarter-finals by 5-8 to 0-9 in Dangan recently.
NUI Galway are captained by Colette Gill (Kinvara ), and she is ably assisted by Galway seniors Niamh Kilkenny (Pearses ), Lorraine Ryan (Killimordaly ), and Catriona Cormican (Cappataggle ), as well as Micheala Morkan (Offaly and All-Star winner 2008 ) and Deirdre Twomey (Cork ).
The Galway students last won the Ashbourne Cup in 1994 and contested last year’s cup semi-final where they were narrowly beaten by the eventual winners UCD.
NUI Galway face a Garda College team, captained by Paula Kenny (Galway ), and are hopeful of winning the competition which should set this young team up for further success in the club’s future.
