Gender neutral bathrooms to be installed in NUI Galway

Student's Union hails decision as 'step to a more inclusive and equal campus'

Gender neutral bathrooms will be installed in each building on the NUI Galway campus following agreement between the university authorities and the Students Union.

The bathrooms will be rolled out across the campus from September onwards to ensure that each main building has a bathroom that is all-gender accessible. NUIG Students’ Union president Phelim Kelly said it was "a big step on the road to a more inclusive and equal campus for all."

The SU said gender neutral bathrooms, which will be open to all 17,500 students attending the university for use, "create private, individual spaces...Traditional Female/male sex-segregated bathrooms are not accessible spaces that everyone can use and feel comfortable in".
