Galway companies called to apply for Deloitte Best Managed Companies Awards Programme

Deloitte has today announced the launch of the 2016/2017 Best Managed Companies Awards Programme in association with Barclays Bank Ireland, which has produced over its nine years of existence over 115 winning companies which collectively have revenues of over €10bn, employ more than 47,000 people, and are based in 20 counties across Ireland.

Deloitte is calling on Galway companies to enter this year’s awards programme and compete to join the network of Best Managed Companies. Previous Galway winners include SalesSense International Limited and Galway Clinic.

One of the primary objectives of the awards programme is to showcase the success of indigenous companies and acknowledge the contribution that this sector makes to the economy. The winning companies all demonstrate superior business performance, and the power of the best Irish indigenous companies. Companies that are successful at the end of this process will be announced in March 2017.

Companies entering the programme are judged on the company’s performance using a wide range of criteria including strategy, capability, commitment, financials and management performance across all key functions of the business.

Brendan Jennings, Managing Partner, Deloitte, and judging panel member commented: “Ireland is emerging from recession with growth and recovery very much at the forefront in future strategies for business. This year, the judges will be paying particular attention to those companies really driving confidence in the indigenous business sector in Ireland. As we look to the future of indigenous business in Ireland we’re looking for the following traits in the winning companies - resilience, ambition, confidence, agility and innovation. By demonstrating their successes, not only does it increase the confidence within their companies, but also contributes to the overall confidence in the Irish economy. We are both proud and delighted to be playing our part in showcasing the power of the best in Irish companies.”

The Best Managed Companies judging panel considers companies from every perspective. They will evaluate the management practices of companies and will take a holistic view of the companies, their performance in relation to their peers, and the industries that they are operating in, in order to determine management success. The judging panel includes:

Frank Ryan, Chairman of the BMC Judging Panel

Brendan Jennings, Managing Partner, Deloitte

Sasha Wiggins, CEO, Barclays Bank Ireland

Ian Kehoe, Editor, Sunday Business Post

Siobhan McAleer, Head of Strategic Partnerships, Irish Management Institute (IMI )

Sasha Wiggins, CEO, Barclays Bank Ireland and judging panel member, said: “We believe that there is great benefit in recognising and celebrating excellence in business as it provides invaluable guidance for other ambitious companies going forward. Not only do the Deloitte Best Managed Companies Awards reward some of Ireland’s most exciting indigenous companies, but through our partnership they also give us in Barclays Bank Ireland a unique hands-on opportunity to support entrants across a range of sectors to develop their strategies in pursuit of becoming one of Ireland’s best managed companies.”

Those who are successful and progress through the awards process will receive customised feedback and coaching from Deloitte and Barclays Bank Ireland. Companies have found the coaching process to be invaluable as their strategy and capabilities are assessed through the coaching process, providing an independent view and validation on their strategic direction. Winners also receive national and peer recognition, the opportunity to network at the gala awards ceremony and attend a symposium organised by the IMI. The ’Best Managed’ designation is an important marketing tool – but, perhaps most importantly, the awards provide a reason to celebrate the efforts of the entire company.
