Mitsubishi Motors has achieved the significant landmark figure of 100,000 global sales of its Outlander PHEV since its launch in 2012.
Britain is rapidly becoming the leading market in the world for Mitsubishi plug-ins with more than 21,000 sold since 2014. Only Japan, with nearly 34,000, has a better sales record for the Outlander PHEV.
A Mitsubishi Motors UK spokesman said: “Consumers in the UK have overwhelmingly made the Outlander PHEV their preferred choice for ultra-low emission motoring too. It is by far the nation’s leading plug-in vehicle.”
In fact, such has been consumer demand and the Government push for environmental transport solutions, one in every two cars now sold by Mitsubishi Motors UK is a plug-in.
Great Appeal
It is not difficult to see why the Outlander PHEV is proving so popular. It has impressive fuel economy and ultra-low emissions – in a vehicle with the go-anywhere ability of four-wheel-drive. It has a total hybrid range of 541 miles (870kms ) and a 32 mile (51kms ) zero emission range using battery power alone, which is more than enough to accommodate the average daily commute.
As well as Mitsubishi's claimed official fuel consumption figure of 156 miles per gallon or 1.8 litres per 100kms, the Outlander PHEV’s low emissions are just 42g of CO2 per kilometre, slotting it in to A1 motor tax band at €170 per annum.
In Ireland
The PHEV is available in Ireland in two specifications, the Intense+ starts at €41,950 and the Instyle starts from €47,450. Both prices include €5,000 SEAI grant and Government VRT relief for plug-in hybrid electric vehicles. The Outlander PHEV also comes with a five year/100,000km EV warranty which covers both vehicle and battery.
Mitsubishi sold 271 Outlander PHEVs in the first four months of 2016, according to SIMI figures.
