BILL BURR, the "undisputed heavyweight champ of rage-fueled humor", according to Rolling Stone , and "one of the funniest, most distinctive voices in the country", in the view of the New York Times, is in Galway in August.
Last month Bill, a stand-up comic, podcaster, and actor, announced on one of his hugely popular 'Monday Morning Podcasts' that he was coming to Ireland. The official dates have now been released and Burr will play a 'Róisín Dubh Comedy presents...' show at the Black Box Theatre on Tuesday August 2 at 8pm.
The comedian, who is of German and Irish extraction, and described by the Montreal Gazette as "a cynic and a contrarian who has never paid any heed to political correctness", enjoys one of the most downloaded comedy podcasts on iTunes; regular appearances on Conan O’Brien and Jimmy Fallon's TV shows, and selling out theatres internationally. " I do a couple hundred shows a year. And I enjoy the travel," he says.
Speaking about himself, Burr said: "In high school I had dreams of going to Notre Dame and becoming a lawyer. By the time I was sophomore I was taking shop class and was considering getting into construction. I ended up working in warehousing and unloading trucks. Other than stand-up, that job was the most fun I ever had."
Bill is also known for his role as Kuby on Breaking Bad. Regarding acting he says: "Occasionally I act in movies but only when they let me." He has appeared The Heat, alongside Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy, in the Al Pacino and Christopher Walken film Stand Up Guys, and in the Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell film, Daddy’s Home. His animated Netflix series, F Is For Family, features Bill, Laura Dern and Justin Long as the Murphy family.
Tickets for Bill Burr are on sale from Wednesday June 15 at 9am from the Town Hall (091 - 569777, www.tht.ie ); Roisin Dubh; www.roisindubh.net; OMG, Shop Street; and Ticketmaster.
