Swimming made easy for teenagers and children

A great way for children and teenagers to make fast progress at learning and improving their swimming is in Braemor Swimming Club's daily swimming classes, with one-week courses commencing Monday July 4 and also Monday July 11.

Children from as young as three years of age can, and do, learn to swim. Braemor SC believes having a teacher in the water and also one on the side helps young children overcome their fear and successfully learn to swim. At Braemor SC classes they then progress to becoming confident and very competent when swimming in deep water. Swimming promotes health, fitness, fun, and relaxation. Teenagers and children should continue to attend classes until they reach a level where they can swim 10 lengths of a 20 metre pool, they then have every chance of survival should the need arise. Braemor SC is also including an introduction to lifesaving in the advanced class this year.

At weekends children take part in numerous water sports at Braemor SC, including surfing, canoeing, sailing, rowing, windsurfing, and swimming in the sea. Parents should ask themselves, “Is my child safe around water? Would they be able to save themselves and not depend on others should unforeseen circumstances occur?"

Braemor SC has been running successful swimming classes in Clarenbridge for many years. Anne Page, who runs the club, is a former international and Olympic panellist swimmer, fully qualified instructor, and coach with many years' experience.

Great emphasis is put on the breathing technique on front crawl at the improvers and advanced classes. "I believe if pupils can breathe correctly they can then swim for longer distances and with ease," Ms Page said. "They are also coached on all four strokes and learn survival swimming techniques."

Braemor Swimming Club runs daily intensive swimming classes for teenagers and children in Clarenbridge at 10 am, 10.40am, for beginners and improvers, and also lane swimming for advanced swimmers at 11.20am. This type of intensive swimming instruction is recommended and the progress made is quite considerable.

Adult classes

You are never too old to learn to swim. Anne Page have successfully taught pupils of all ages. The beginners’ class caters for the very nervous and frightened pupil by having a teacher in the water, which helps people overcome their fears.

At the improvers’ class teachers help pupils to become confident while swimming in the deep end of the pool, and to improve their breathing technique on the front crawl as well as improving their other strokes. When adults learn to breathe correctly on front crawl they are then able to swim with good style for longer distances with ease and relaxation.

On this course adults make quick progress. Braemor SC also holds one to one adult swimming lessons throughout the year which are available on request.

The adults' learn to swim in one week classes cater for complete beginners and improvers. Week 1 takes place from Monday June 6 to Fridau June 10, with week 2 running from Monday June 20 to Friday June 24.

The adult classes take place nightly at 8pm. To book phone Anne Page at 085 1223303 or join at the class.
