Connacht secure interpro camogie crown

Connacht won their first Gael Linn Cup since 2008 when they triumphed over Leinster by 2-7 to 1-6 in an entertaining senior interprovincial camogie final at the National Sports Campus in Abbotstown.

Connacht advanced to the final after withstanding a late rally by Ulster in the semi-final. Leading by 10 points thanks to two second-half goals, Connacht survived with just two points to spare, 2-10 to 2-8.

The final proved a cagey affair, with conditions making it difficult at times, but the experienced Niamh McGrath played a leading role, scoring four of her five points as Connacht led by 0-5 to 0-3 at the interval.

Four minutes into the second half Stacey Kehoe (Wexford ) bagged Leinster's first point from play response to another McGrath point, but when Morkan slotted her second point, there was just the minimum between the sides.

However, Galway pair Noreen Coen and Aoife Donoghue struck for the goals that gave Connacht vital breathing space and a seven-point lead with 13 minutes remaining.

Although a goal gave Leinster some hope, Connacht had enough in hand to take the silverware.
