Casey takes third win

Gary Higgins of GCH took a comfortable victory in the fourth race of the 5km. Higgins clocked 16.32 in this race in Tuam, winning by a clear margin from Ruaidhri Geraghty, also GCH, who ran 16:54, and Damien Larkin of Craughwell AC who ran 16:59 for third.

Regina Casey of GCH took a third win of the series clocking 17:53, with the consistent Niamh Hennelly GCH second in 18:52, and Deirdre Brophy of Athenry AC third in 19:18. Shauna Bocquet of Craughwell AC took the wheelchair race honours in a fast 16:49,

The last two races of the series will be held in Claregalway and Athenry over the next two Tuesday evenings, with Athenry hosting the post series finale in the Raheen Woods hotel.

Mayfly 10k

The annual Mayfly 10k took place in Oughterard on Sunday with South Galway AC athlete Greg Lundon claiming victory in 37.23. James Ferry of HP was second in 38.33 and Vincent McCormack third home. Sandra Prosenica won the women's race in a time of 42.36.

European Outdoor Masters

Galway’s Martin Mcevilly claimed double bronze in the European Masters road racing championships in Portugal at the weekend, with team bronze in the O65 category 10k road race and a team bronze also in the cross county relay.The second day of the Senior and Masters Track and Field championships will take place Tuesday June 7 in Dangan at 7.30 pm with the ladies' 3000m, men’s 5000m, and a series of throwing events down for decision.
