THE HOT 8 Brass Band, the phenomenal New Orleans jazz-funk-hip hop band have brought the house down on numerous occasions when playing Galway in the past and will do so again this weekend.
The band marked it's 20 year together last year with the release of the Vicennial – 20 Years of the Hot 8 Brass Band late last year, and during this, theie 21st year, they will be touring Britain and Ireland, including the Róisín Dubh on Sunday May 15 at 9pm.
Described as “incendiary” by The Observer and “peerless” by Metro, the Hot 8 could also be called contemporary music's great survivors, having come through the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, the separate deaths of four band members, and the horror of trumpeter Terrell 'Burger' Batiste losing his legs in a car crash.
The band are celebrated for their unique reinterpretation of Marvin Gaye's 'Sexual Healing', and they bring their unique flair to covers of artists like Snoop Dogg, Stevie Wonder, The Specials or Basement Jaxx, and soul classics like ‘Papa Was A Rolling Stone’ and ‘Just My Imagination’.
The Hot 8 have collaborated with Lauryn Hill to Mos Def, and were featured in Spike Lee’s two New Orleans documentaries, When The Levee Broke and The Creek Don’t Rise.
