The Galway City Council is to request that a water safety audit be carried out in the city in the near future.
The move follows a motion put to the local authority by Cllr Niall McNelis on Monday, requesting that Irish Water Safety carry out an audit of the city’s waterways. The motion also called on Galway Harbour Board and the Corrib Navigation Trustees to carry out similar audits on the city’s waterways.
Following a suggestion by the city council’s chief executive, Brendan McGrath, the Office of Public Works and a number of other stakeholders will be included in the request.
The local authority is expected to write to all bodies in the coming days.
