Fred Cooke for Róisín Dubh Comedy Clubh

FRED COOKE describes himself as "honest, childlike and intrigued", but as stand-up comedy fans and anyone who watches Republic Of Telly knows, he should have added "very funny" to that list.

Fred was once the face of the Spar ads, the ones where Fergus is the gormless guy who puts the prices on the floor and gets away with it? He went from there to become a Republic Of Telly stalwart to selling out Vicar Street in the space of a few short years.

He is at the peak of his powers now, and his musical comedy has won praise from Tommy Tiernan, who said, "he has the real spirit of the clown in him". The Times called him a "comedy genius; he has so much energy that he could power a small village in the west of Kerry”.

Fred Cooke plays the Róisín Dubh Comedy Clubh tomorrow at 8.30pm. Support is from Paul Crowley. The MC is Steve Bennett Admission is €8 in advance from Róisín Dubh, OMG Shop Street, and www.roisindubh.net or €10 on the door.
