DANIEL JEWESBURY, the artist, lecturer, writer, and editor will curate the 14th TULCA Festival of Visual Arts. The open call for submissions to the festival, which takes place in November, has also been announced.
Jewesbury was born in London in 1972 and studied sculpture at the National College of Art & Design in Dublin before moving to Belfast in 1996. His most recent exhibition in the Republic was as one of the selectors for Pallas Projects’ fifth Periodical Review, at Pallas and the NCAD Gallery in December and January. He works in film, video, photography, radio, and performance, and exhibited internationally.
The Headless City is this year’s theme and artists showing at TULCA will display work in response to the question: 'What’s happened to our cities?' "I’m going to be bringing some incredibly talented, insightful artists together in Galway, to ask how we can live in our cities in the future," said Jewesbury. "I’ve been researching these ideas for several years now, in locations all around Europe. I’m really looking forward to seeing Galwegians’ reactions to what I think will be some challenging, exciting, thought-provoking ideas.”
TULCA has announced its open call for proposals from artists or groups that respond to the themes of the exhibition. Artists are invited to propose new or existing work, but not previously exhibited in Galway. The deadline for submissions is March 31. For details see www.tulcafestival.com
