A conference on surrogacy will be hosted by the School of Law on Saturday at Aras Moyola, NUI Galway.
Entitled Surrogacy: Forging a legal and policy framework for Ireland, the interdisciplinary event is being organised by Dr Brian Tobin, a lecturer in law at the university.
The keynote speakers are Professor Susan Golombok and Dr Kirsty Horsey. Professor Golombok is a leading child psychologist and the director of the Centre for Family Research at Cambridge University. She is a leading authority on the family, having studied the subject extensively for more than 35 years. She is the author of Modern Families: Parents and Children in New Family Forms (Cambridge University Press 2015 ).
Dr Horsey is a senior lecturer at the University of Kent. She is a member of the Surrogacy UK Working Group on Surrogacy Law Reform and is the author of the group's recently released report Surrogacy in the UK: Myth busting and reform.
Other confirmed speakers include Deirdre Fottrell QC, Dr Andrea Mulligan, adjunct lecturer at Trinity College's School of Law, Professor Deirdre Madden of UCC's School of Law, Dr John Danaher, lecturer in law at NUI Galway's School of Law, Dr Brian Tobin, a lecturer in law at NUI Galway, and Hayley Mulligan, a doctoral fellow at NUI Galway's School of Law.
